Carter Goodrich has an aesthetic that reminds me a little bit of Tim Burton's but has a fuller feeling. His characters are extremely exaggerated and show a plethora of character. I don't need to see these characters in action within an animated cartoon to make a good guess as to what their personalities are like:
This character is communicating childish boredom. He also seems quite mischievous. His body is round and short and he is wearing stripes (which is a somewhat childish pattern)
This character is a figure of authority who takes himself way too seriously. His entire body mass rests in his chest showing a multitude of pride, his nose is pulled into a sneer and there are multiple rolls under his chin signifying that he has pushed his chin in to enhance posture.
This character appears to be weak and perhaps a little lazy as well. His eyes are droopy, his hair is unkempt, he has a slouch and a beer belly.
Angry old lady. I just love this illustration, her facial expression says it all but the body shape is such a perfect exaggeration of a cute little elderly woman.
Angry old man. The multiple wrinkles in his forehead coupled with his droopy nose and bitter frown says it all.
In addition, these designs not only focus on the shape and expressions of the characters but also the textures of their clothing, hair and skin. The shading and texturing brings these characters into the third dimension.
